The closest airport to Silver City, NM, is Grant County Airport (airport code SVC), a small regional terminal serviced by Great Lakes Airlines. El Paso (ELP), TX, is the closest large commercial airport and is approximately a 2½-hour drive west to Silver City. Rental cars are available, or visitors may make reservations with the Las Cruces Shuttle & Charter Service at 800-288-1784.
Travelers flying into Tucson (TUS), AZ, should expect a 3-hour drive east to reach Silver City. From Phoenix (PHX), AZ, Silver City is a 5-hour drive east, as well. Visitors flying into Albuquerque (ABQ), NM, will have a 4-hour drive south.
Travel to Silver City by Car:
Silver City, NM, can be reached from Interstate Highway 10 (I-10) via either Deming, NM (closest to El Paso), or Lordsburg, NM (closest to Tucson). Take Highway 180 north and west from Deming for approximately one hour to Silver City, passing through the communities of Hurley and Bayard. From Lordsburg, take Highway 70 to Highway 90 north and east for approximately one hour into downtown Silver City.
Travelers from Albuquerque, NM, and northern New Mexico can reach Silver City by traveling south down Interstate Highway 25 (I-25) to Highway 152 west, which travels through the Aldo Leopold Wilderness and into Grant County via a winding mountain road. Where Highway 152 intersects Highway 180, take Highway 180 west into town.
Travelers from northwestern New Mexico and northeastern Arizona can reach Silver City by taking Highway 180 south through Catron County and the communities of Reserve and Glenwood, NM. Downtown Silver City is about 90 miles south of Reserve and about 110 miles from the Arizona border.
