Demonstration at Bear Mountain Lodge
Wren’s Nest Mural Installation – Linda Brewer
August 1 & 2, 9 am to 12 Noon Each Day (Pre-festival demo)
Help install this clay mural, depicting different species of wrens and hand built by Linda Brewer, onsite at the Bear Mountain Lodge.
Demonstration at Silver City Museum Annex

Clay Slip Decorating Techniques: Kate Brown
August 3, 1 pm to 4:30 pm
Attendees will have the opportunity to play with these techniques on leather hard terra cotta tiles. There will be a slide show of the influences, Kate’s pottery and tile work, and work done by her tile class students.

Hand-Building a Bulldog with Bone: Linda Brewer
August 3, 10 am to 12 noon
Linda will be creating a bulldog in clay, utilizing all hand-building techniques including slab, coil,
pinch and press mold.
Taos Pueblo Pot Building Techniques: Pam Lujan-Hauer
August 3 & 4, 2:00 to 4:30 PM
A member of the Taos Pueblo Tribe of New Mexico, Pam will demonstrate the building of both traditional and contemporary Taos Pueblo clay pots. The artist utilizes clay – including the sparkling Taos micaceous clay – that she finds and processes herself. The audience will learn how Pam uses coil building to create the pot, as well as various finishing techniques and clay slip painting.
Clay Shaping Techniques: Dan Lauer
August 3 & 4, 10 am to Noon & 2:00 to 4:30 pm
Come see, and try it yourself! A student in WNMU’s Bachelor of Fine Arts program with an emphasis in ceramics, Dan will be showing off his techniques in shaping clay from small to large, from short to tall, from skinny to fat – forming and altering vases and bowls. Dan says, “It’s all about the clay!”
Sgraffito Design Techniques: Beth Menczer
August 4, 1:30 to 4:00 pm
Beth will paint on unfired ceramic bowls using a layer of contrasting slip and will then scratch through the clay slip to produce an outline drawing. Bowls will be available for those in the audience who wish to explore this technique known as “sgraffito”.

Wheel Throwing Techniques & Altered Forms: Dave Roberts
August 3, 9 am to Noon
Watch while Dave demonstrates basic wheel throwing techniques and creates simple, yet elegant, shapes of clay.
Carved Tile Techniques: Marcia Smith
August 3, 9 am to Noon
Slabs of red clay will be laid onto cement forms, and Marcia will carve designs into the clay, cut them out, then return them to the piece for finishing. See an example of a completed ceramic bench, created with this technique.
Bas Relief Custom Window Surround Installation: Kathryn Allen
August 4, 9 am to 10:30 am
Architectural Ceramic Artist Kathryn Allen will demonstrate how to install a large scale, custom tiled, bas-relief window surround, which she has created exclusively for the Seedboat Center for the Arts.
Ceramic Mural on Wood Installation: Kathryn Allen
August 4, 10:30 am to Noon
Kathryn will follow her earlier demonstration with a second one, showing how to mount a ceramic relief mural on wood.
