Self Guided CLAY Tour
SOUTHWEST NEW MEXICO YOUTH MURAL PROJECT
For the past 18 years, the Youth Mural Program has created some of the most attractive and memorable outdoor art throughout Grant County, New Mexico. Residents of and visitors to downtown Silver City are amazed by the vibrancy the murals add, from the outside of the Antique Mall to the front of the public library; from the walkway in the Big Ditch, to the outside of the Union Hall in Bayard. Murals have been installed throughout Grant and Catron counties, from Glenwood, through Gila into Bayard and Santa Clara. Some are painted, others are created in clay, but all are colorful expressions of the communities' culture and history.
Objectives:
1. To teach students about the history and culture of their community through the arts
2. To connect students to their peers, local artists and community members
3. To teach students that public art can enrich and enhance the quality of life in their community
4. To encourage students to engage in beautifying their community
