If you're looking for a quiet getaway on the Southwest New Mexico Clay Arts Trail, look no further than the Casitas de Gila Guesthouses. The five adobe Casitas (or “little houses") are located on 265 acres of private land near the Gila Wilderness about 45 minutes northwest of Silver City, New Mexico. Each casita is unique, but they each had a lovely kiva fireplace and all the comforts of home. There is much to do on the property - hiking, birding, rockhounding, stargazing and much more. We were impressed with the views, as well as the gallery full of pottery by talented artists such as Jude Wasechek and Mary Giardina (Keep an eye out for our next post covering Mary's site along the Clay Arts Trail - Wild Crafted Clay Pottery). The adobe buildings are so warm and welcoming. They blend into the earth, enhancing the beauty of the property. The casitas are open year-round and are available for a night or for a month. The gallery is always open, too. Just be sure to call ahead to let them know you are coming. Your cellphone won't work there (they have WiFi - don't worry!), so this is truly the place to go to get away from it all. Check out their website for more information.
